About Brussels

Brussels is not only the capital of Belgium, but it has also earned the title of capital of Europe. The city has many important offices of international significance. The main EU institutions as well as the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are situated here only. All this makes Brussels the administrative centre of European Union and an important centre for international politics.

Climate

Brussels has a maritime temperate climate due to nearby wetlands and nearby coastal area too has an effect on its weather. There are approximately 200 days of rain per year. The average low for the winters is about 0.7°C and average high temperature in summers goes up to 22.5°C.

Tourist Attractions

Brussels has over 80 museums such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. The picturesque medieval streets, beautiful boulevards and impressive monuments and an active cultural life make the city more lively and vibrant. The architecture is diverse l and the main attractions are the Grand Place which is a world heritage site, the Royal Palace and the Manneken Pis (which is also the symbol of the city).

People

Initially from being almost Dutch-speaking, Brussels has now become multilingual with majority of people speaking French. Population of the Brussels metropolitan area is just over 2 million.

Transport

Brussels is served by Brussels Airport and by the much smaller Brussels South Charleroi Airport. There is also Brussels Metro, serving a large part of Brussels. Brussels is also has by direct high-speed rail links like Eurostar which connects it to London via the Channel Tunnel and the Thalys which connects it to Amsterdam, Paris and Cologne.
